ABOUT
Val Esparza is a multi-media artist whose work dissects the essence of Americana. Born in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Mexico, and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Val’s early career as a screen printer and fashion designer heavily influenced his use of iconography, narrative and repetition.
The artist substituted a traditional post-secondary education for experience, starting a screen-printing and fashion design career, where he honed his graphic design and photography skills. His work explores traditional icons, such as the American flag, and non-traditional icons, such as the traffic cone, vape pens, electric scooters that define our era. These icons help creative visual narratives of a changing nation, one overwhelmed with gentrification and convenience.
Over the years, his art and designs has been featured in numerous exhibitions and runway shows. Recently, Esparza took a 7-year artistic sabbatical to roam around the United States, eventually landing in New York for 4 years. The journey impacted his view of America, helping his concentrate his vision for the next era in his artistic journey.
In addition to his artwork, Val is a meticulous graphic designer, working with companies of every size, from small businesses to international corporations, to create impactful brand and visual identities. He believes in the powering of creative aggregation, using his skills in one area to elevate other areas of focus.
Esparza currently resides in Miami, Florida, where he continues to explore new frontiers.

My career spans 16 years across various mediums including photography, screenprinting, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, software design and fashion design. But it started with a simple handbag I designed on my friend’s kitchen table and a t-shirt inspired by a photograph.
